A method of crossing by an electric vehicle consisting of at least two units of a neutral zone of an electric power system; associated electric vehicle. This process is carried out by an electric vehicle, each unit of which comprises: a motor; a wiper (11, 13, 14, 16) collecting an external electric power; and a battery supplying internal electric power, each unit being in an operating mode selected from a main mode in which the motor uses the external electric power; and at least one alternative mode in which the motor does not use external electrical power. For crossing the neutral zone (24), when at least one unit of the vehicle (10) detects that it is unable to collect the external electrical power, said at least one unit switches to the alternative mode, and transmits to the other units of the vehicle information indicative of said switching, and, upon receipt of said information, each of the other units switches to said alternating mode.
