The inventive magnetostrictive torque sensor 100 includes a wave 10 with a magnetized range 20; a magnetic field sensor 30 to measure a magnetic field produced by the magnetised range outside the wave 10; and an evaluation unit 40 to determine a measurement value of a torque adjacent to the wave 10 due to a signal from the magnetic field sensor 30,where the evaluation unit 40 includes a 45 memory to store predetermined calibration data for a functional representation of the signal of the magnetic field sensor 30 on the measured torque value. The predetermined calibration data are suitable for determining the measurement value of the torque at the 10-wavelength of the torque sensor up to a predetermined torque torque of the 100 torque sensor as well as in an area beyond the torque of the rated torque.;The inventive procedure serves to calibrate a magnetostrictive torque sensor and includes the following steps: capture a variety of data pairs from each signal of the magnetic field sensor and a corresponding predetermined torque at the wave; determine a functional representation of the magnetic field sensor signal on an output torque measurement value of the torque sensor from the variety of data pairs;and storing calibration data for the functional image. The following step shall be taken before the multiple pairs of data are recorded: attach a torque to the wave in a first torque direction beyond the rated torque.
