A system and method may support an adaptive locking mechanism in a transactional middleware machine environment. The system may cause each of the plurality of processes to perform one or more test-and-set (TAS) operations to acquire a lock on data in the shared memory. Then, the system acquires the spin failed rate during the current tuning period, and the spin failure is when the process fails to acquire a lock after performing the maximum number of TAS operations allowed. Occurs. Moreover, the system can adaptively configure a spin count for the next tuning period based on the obtained spin failure rate, the spin count specifying a maximum number of rounds of TAS operations allowed during the next tuning period.
