Improved Construction of Tool Holder, for Planing Shaping Slotting and like Machines, with Two Tools, for Cutting in both Forward and Return Motions.

Tool - hodders ; planing and shaping.-A toolholder for planing, shaping, slotting, and like machines is constructed to carry two tools, so that the machine may cut during each stroke. The tool-holder is of the type described in Spacification No. 13,051, A.D. 1885, and has two long sockets B to receive the tools J. Each socket has a trunnion C mounted in a bracket A1 on a plate A, provided with bolt-holes a, a1 for securing it in position. The trunnions are held in place by lock-nuts C', C2, Fig. 4, clip rings D connected to springs being secured to the nuts C' to hold the sockets normally in the cutting position, in which position they abut against stops A', A5 and a common stop A3, and are held against lateral play by tapered projections b, b1 on the sockets engaging corresponding recesses in the stops or vice versÔ. The tools are held in place by screws k and adjusted laterally by screws h, j. The bracket A' may be formed with a shank instead of with the plate A.
