Improvements in Tool-holders for Planing Machines, Slotting Machines, Shaping Machines and other similar Machine-tools.

5919. Bowers, C. March 14. Tool-holders for planing, shaping, slotting, and like machines are arranged to permit a cut to be taken during both strokes. Tools j, Figs. 1 and 3, are held by set-screws in half-dovetail grooves in bushes b, capable of oscillation in the body of the tool-holder. The tools are normally held in their cutiing-position by spring-controlled pins n, which project into recesses in the bushes b. The sides of the hole k in the body give additional support to the tool, in this position. A shank a', or H, is provided to suit existing toolboxes. The bushes b are retained in place by flanges c and cover-plates d. Two modifications are illustrated and described in which four tools are used, and one adapted for curved tools.
