Tools and tool-holders; rods and bars.-A toolholder for lathes and planing, shaping, and other machine tools has recesses A, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, to receive a tool f, the recesses having oppositelycurved surfaces e inclined to a vertical face d. The tool f is made from a bar, either straight or suitably bent, having the section shown in Fig. 18, so that a curved tool may be firmly held by a single screw and filling-piece g and a straight tool by a single screw and filling-piece g', Figs. 6 and 14. Screw holes C are provided in both surfaces e of each recess, so that the holder may be inverted to form a right or left handed tool. A wedgeshaped packing piece may be inserted between the face d and a straight tool to give it the necessary rake for screw-cutting. The holder shown in Fig. 17 has side recesses A and a front recess at right-angles, each recess having a flat upper surface and two screws.
