Cut-outs; switches; transformers. -Relates to speed-controlling devices for dynamo - electric machines whereby such machines are stopped should the speed exceed or fall below a predetermined limit, and is especially applicable to boosters supplying electric railway systems. A centrifugal apparatus is employed to close the trip-circuit of a circuit - breaker when the speed is too high or too low. Figs. 1 and 2 show the construction. Adjacent to the end of the shaft of the booster is a support I carrying two conducting-rings K, K1 insulated from the support and from one another but connected to the tripcircuit. On the end of the shaft are mounted on pivots N two weights 0 connected by adjustable springs P. At the centre of the shaft is a stud R on which is pivoted an arm s which can be turned to take the position shown and hold the weights in an intermediate position. When the shaft rotates, the weights are thrown outwardly, allowing the arm s to be pulled away from the catches o, o1 so that, should the speed drop, the weights are drawn inward and the heel pieces q engage the rings K, K1 and close the circuit of the cut-out. Should the speed be excessive, then the weights are thrown out against the rings and the circuit also closed. The arm s is re-set by introducing a tool through the opening t in the cover T. In a modified construction, one ring K only is employed.
