24,501. Gauge, J. Nov. 8. Scoring and marking. -A score indicator for ping pong, table tennis, &c. consists of a dial plate D, with numbers on both sides, rotating between two discs T, having holes so that the same number can be seen from each side. The dial D revolves on a pin E fixed to the support F. The dial D is actuated by a lever I, pivoted to the pin E, carrying a spring pawl J which engages notches K on the dial. On pulling a cord H, which works over either of two guidepulleys P and is attached to the lever I, the dial moves partly round. When the cord is released, the lever I returns to its normal position under the action of a spring L. A second spring pawl M prevents the dial from returning with the lever. There are as many notches K as there are numbers on the dial. The dial may also be actuated by pressing a knob V on a sliding metal rod W, the end of which engages the lever I. In a modification, clock hands indicate the score on a dial which is numbered on both sides. To record large scores, a smaller rotating dial gears with the larger one, and indicates the number of its revolutions.
