17,089. Hove, G. Aug. 6. Bordered fabrics; jacquards.-To weave a doublebordered fabric with satin or twill between the outer and inner borders, and if desired between the inner border and the centre, so as to obtain continuous corner and end borders, two 612's jacquard machines a, b, in which there are two hooks for each needle, are employed, one for the border and one for the centre or repeats. The odd rows of hooks of the needles 200d of the jacquard a are arranged to weave the edgings of the outer border c as shown, and the cords for the centre of the outer border are tied up to the odd rows of hooks of the needles 400s of the jacquard a. Two cords are used for each warp thread of the inner border and of the satin or twill bands, one set f being tied up to the even rows of hooks of the jacquard b, while the other set f for the inner border is tied up to the even rows of hooks of the needles 400s of the jacquard a, and the other cords for the satin bands are tied up to a spare row of hooks 12r of the machine b. The odd rows of hooks of the machine b work the centre of the fabric and the cross-borders. Both machines a, b are provided with slide-bars made like the twilling-bars described in Specification No. 8760, A.D. 1901. When one of these bars is pulled forward by a cord against the action of a spring until it is engaged by a catch the griffe-knives of the even rows of hooks are raised into a vertical and inoperative position. When the catch is released by a cord, the spring returns the bar. In weaving from g to g', the slide-bar of the machine a is pulled forward, while both odd and even rows of hooks of the machine b are working, the cards being cut to produce the cross-border and then the satin or twill band. At g1, the slide-bar of the machine a is released and that of the machine b is pulled forward, so that both inner and outer borders are worked by the machine a, the satin bands by the spare rows of the machine b, and the centre by the odd rows of the machine b. The unused hooks in the machines may be removed. Instead of working with odd and even rows of hooks, the hooks may be otherwise arranged. Thus, the first needles may work the first and thirteenth rows of hooks, the second needles the second and fourteenth rows, and so on. In this case, the rows 1 to 12 correspond to the odd rows, and the rows 13 to 24 correspond to the even rows.
