11,593. Heer, O. May 20. Straightening.-T u b e s, rods, axles, rails, and the like are straightened in machines adjustable, from either end as required, without stopping the machine. The work a, Fig. 1, to be straightened is supported on blocks e and is hammered by an eccentric sector c pivoted to a sliding block b reciprocated by an eccentric. Rods d are pivoted to the sector c and to suspensionlinks r, and serve to adjust the depth of the acting- portion of the sector. The blocks e are separately adjustable by rods f, f1 and slide on a bed g which rests on inclines k, adjustable to raise or lower the bed by a right and left hand screw h driven through bevel gearing from hand-wheels i. The shape of the face of the sector corresponds to the form of the work. In a modification, the sector acts through a block l, Fig. 4. connected to the sector as shown, and having a pin working in a slot n in the framing. It is then only necessary to change the block l to suit the work to be straightened.
