6703. Peck, C., and Peck, W. W. March 19. Loom change-box motions.- Relates to change-box motions of the kind described in Specifications No. 6209, A.D. 1888, No. 3544, A.D. 1889, and Nos. 8727 and 26,130, A.D. 1902, and more particularly to that part of the mechanism which controls the relative positions of the discs f, the rotation of which effects the actual shifting of the shuttle boxes. As described in Specification No. 8727, A.D. 1902, sliding bolts 1, 2 are used to put the rising and falling racks v into gear with their pinions, and to lock the discs f by engagement with the rims f1, but instead of the bolts being operated upon directly by the cards on the card barrel 11, they are operated by projections p1, r', respectively, on rocking shafts or sleeves p, r. Each shaft or sleeve p, r is so mounted that it may be slid longitudinally by means of inclined planes or cam-pieces g', g', g3, g4 on the discs f acting on projections p4, r5 on the shafts or sleeves p, r respectively, and when any one of the four shuttle boxes is in its operative position, the shafts or sleeves p, r are in a definite position ; thus, Fig. 7 shows the positions of the shafts or sleeves when the top shuttle box is in its operative position. The shafts or sleeves have projections p', p3, r2, r3, r4, which are moved by needles n1, n', n3, n4, according to the position of the shafts or sleeves, when the needles are pushed against the action of springs 1b by the cards on the card barrel. When a projection is moved, its shaft or sleeve p or r is partially turned, and the corresponding bolt 1 or 2 is moved against the action of a spring 1c by the projection p1 or r1. The projections p2, p3, r2, r3, r4 are so arranged that, when the shafts or sleeves p, r are in any position, the first, second, third, or fourth shuttle box is brought into operation according as the needle n1, n', n3, or n4 is pressed by a blank part of a card. If desired, a fifth needle may be provided to act as a reveraing-needle to reverse the direction of rotation of the card barrel when required, in the manner described in Specification No. 19,829, A.D. 1903. In the Provisional Specification, it is stated that an independent reversing-motion may be used.
