Indicators, point or switch.-Relates to railway switching-apparatus of the type in which electric energy is used to move and lock the switch and give indication of such movement, and consists in an arrangement for preventing a false indication being given. The diagram shows an arrangement having a motor 1, 2 for moving the rail switch B, a pole-changing switch 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, battery 36 controller brushes 19, 20, and indication and safety magnets 29, 30 as described in Specifications No. 13,730, A.D. 1901, [Abridgment Class Railways &c.], and No. 8020, A.D. 1902. " Indication "selector" magnets 31, 32 governing a tongue 15 moving between contacts 36, 37 are now introduced. When the controller is moved to put the brushes 19, 20 into contact with the contacts 16, 17 and 22, 23 respectively, a circuit is completed from the battery so that current flows through the safety magnet 30, selector magnet 31, and the switch arm 4 to the motor, which is thus rotated and, through the mechanism described in the prior Specifications, operates the switch B, and reverses the pole-changing switch. The indication magnet 31 attracts the tongue 15, which makes contact with the contact 36 and thus allows the indication current, generated by the motor running on as a generator, to flow through the indication magnet 29 and give the proper indication. If the rail switch meets with an obstruction which prevents it from going to its final position, then, when the battery circuit is broken, the "kick" or recoil of the rail switch may cause the armature to rotate, but the false indication would be prevented by the tongue 15 having been moved by the indication selector magnet 32.
