Shoring and strutting; foundations.-Apparatus for the construction of the foundations of buildings, piers, &c., and the sinking of wells and shafts consists of plates A, preferably of rolled steel, sunk to the required depth, and fixed side by side by means of beads a fitting sockets a1. At suitable heights, stretcher stays B are hung on by bolts C, the heads of which are passed through eyes in the plates, and the shanks allowed to drop into narrow necks in the eyes. Alternate plates may be left free to slide up and down. The stays B support cross-stays E, on which rails for trucks can be laid.
