Improvements relating to Indicating Devices for Cash Registers.

Illuminated transparency signals.-Cash registers of the kind described in Specification No. 10,213, AD. 1893, [Abridgment Class Itegistering &c.], or of other types, are provided with auxiliary illuminated indicators divided into compartments having lights within them, controlled by the keys or other elements, for bring- ing certain combinations of lights into action for each operation of the machine. The lamp indicators are at any desired distance from the machine. When one of the ordinary indicators is elevated, the commutator rod 35 is also elevated to make contact with the springs 37 and the frame 39 is tilted to break the contact 44, controlling. the zero lamps or indicators. To prevent sparking, the main switchlever 46 is employed,.this lever breaking the circuit before it is broken at any of the .contacts 36, 37, or 43, 44. The auxiliary Indicator 53 has the electric incandescent lamps arranged in compartments, as shown in Fig. 4, and in the form of a monogram. The wiring is such that only those lamps in the monogram corresponding to the numeral or character associated with the key depressed are illuminated. The dollar sign and the period of the indicator may be painted upon the glass, or illuminated by constantly-burning lamps. In a modified construction, a number of electromagnetic switches are controlled by the keys, and by the register indicator shanks together with contacts for the zero lamps, and for the magnetic switch circuits, and a main switch is operated by any one of the keys.
