17,592. Napier, J. S. Aug. 31. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to screw-and-nut steering-mechanism in which the nut is in two parts divided in a plane transversely to the axis and engaged by a compound rocking lever for the purpose of taking up wear. The screw B, formed on the steering-shaft A, is engaged by two similar screw blocks C which are spaced apart and formed with flattened shoulders C', on which bear segmental shoes D. The shoes U are engaged by curved jaws E', F1, secured on the rocking shaft G, which is connected to and operates the steering road wheels. The jaws E', F1 form part of a scissors mechanism, the lower jaws E1 arranged one on each side of the lower nut C, being formed integral with the member E, which is keyed to the rocking shaft G. The upper jaws F1 form parts of members F, which are mounted freely on the shaft G, so that they may be adjusted relatively to the part E and jaws E' by a cross-bar H and tension bolt K, thus taking up all wear.
