The apparatus, which appears in various forms, is designed for suspension within the steam space of the boiler and for substitution for external and independent appliances. It consists essentially in the provision of one or more chambers to which the steam has access through V-shaped apertures or narrow slots of varying dimensions In Fig. 1, which shows one form that the apparatus may take, a series of hemispherical vessels C, C', C2 are secured in the steam space to the crown of the boiler or' drum A. The vessels, one of which is, shown'in Fig. 5 on an enlarged scale, communicate with each other by trunks D. The steam enters' the vessels on its way to the outlet B through the serrated edges of the vessels, the edges being against the boiler. To equalize the entry of steam, the serrations may increase in size as the distance of the vessels from the outlet pipe increases. External flanges, such as c2, present the surging boiler-water from reaching the steam inlets. Each vessel is provided on its interior with a plurality of radial fins c3 and is formed with the socket c' to receive the T-piece of the connecting-pipe D. Instead cf serrated edges, narrow passages between the shell of the boiler and the edges of the vessel may be constructed by forming projections upon the edges. The vessels, instead of being hemispherical, may be trough-shaped and may form a continuous chamber. In a further modification, Fig. 22, the chamber, may be constructed of a flat plate J which forms a chord of the arc of the boiler shell.
