3493. O'Connell, J. Feb. 13. Neck-tie retainers.-A neck-tie fastener is made from two spring steel jaws a, a', Fig. 1, hinged at b and provided with teeth c on their inner edges. The jaws are fastened together by sliding the stud d in the keyhole slot e in the jaw a1, and then sliding it back in the similar but reversed slot f in the jaw a. The fastener is adjustably secured to the shirt front by means of the resilient double plate g, which embraces the jaw a', the series of projections h on the plate passing into a small hole on the jaw, thus holding the fastener at any desired point. A piece i of button-holed leather is fixed at the end of the plate g to be fastened to any of the studs on the shirt. In a modification, Fig. 4, the plate g is dispensed with, the retaining- device i being riveted to the jaw a. As shown in Fig. 4, the fastener is slightly cambered to lie evenly against the breast of the wearer.
