Method of Obtaining a Soluble, Glutinous Substance in a Dry and Neutral State from Tang-acid.

Tangates.-Tang acid is prepared as described in Specifications No. 11,538, A.D. 1896, and Nos. 12,275, 12,277, and 13,289, A.D. 1898, [Abridgment Class India-rubber &c.], and is pressed in a cold state, then heated, and pressed again while hot. The product thus obtained is powdered and is treated with ammonia either by placing it on an endless band carried in a direction opposite to that in which the ammonia is passed, or by placing it in rotating casks containing agitators. When the action is completed the product is dried, any excess of ammonia being driven off by the heat ; dry neutral soluble ammonium tangate is thus obtained.
