Washing.-In a process for treating waste fibres for the manufacture of wadding and for spinning purposes, a washing-apparatus is used consisting of an annular receptacle furnished with steam heating-tubes, a paddle-wheel 42, Fig. 5, for circulating the liquid, aud rotary arms 44 which carry pivoted lifting-hooks 45. As the arms rotate, the hooks are tilted by a fixed roller 48 so as to raise the fibres on to a conveying-cloth 46.
