26,771. McMahon, P. V. Nov. 24. Spray-producers.-A spraying-nozzle is formed as a cup-shaped or conical cavity, the apex of the cone forming the bottom of the cavity into which air or exhaust gas is forced. The air used for spraying is preferably supplied by a small pump at a pressure of about 1¢ to 2 lb. per sq. in. The petrol or other liquid may be supplied by a pump of variable capacity or by a tank under the control of a cock. The circular cavity b, Fig. 1, is surrounded by a trough c to which liquid is supplied by the pipe e. This liquid forms a thin film over the hole d, through which air under pressure or exhaust gases pass from the pipe b1. A series of holes may be formed at the bottom of the cavity. A multiple spraying-device is shown in Fig. 6 ; the jets are arranged in a circle, and the liquid is supplied to each cavity by the cock n, which allows the jets to be brought into action similtaneously or consecutively. Liquid enters by the pipe e and air or gas by the pipe b1. A modification of this device in which an air regulator is used is also described. A form of sprayer for use in horizontal positions is shown in Figs. 9, 10, and 11 ; any number of air holes d may lead from the air inlet b1 to the cavity b, and instead of a series of holes a narrow slit may be used. In the sprayer shown in Figs. 17 and 18, six cavities are formed in the plate y which can slide over the plate y1 containing air openings of different lengths a', a2, a3. Liquid is supplied by the pipe e.
