13,312. Fanning, J. J. June 8. Wood &c. boxes; fittings, internal.- Wood or other boxes for eggs or similar fragile articles are made and fitted as shown. The lid is fastened either by a lock c, Fig. 2, or by passing looped wire d through holes e, f, twisting the ends together and turning them back, and filling the holes f with sealing - wax or other composition. Battens g, b1 and strengthening metal corner plates may be provided, and the box is ventilated by holes i controlled by perforated plates i. Additional ventilating-holes k may serve as hand-holes, or suitable handles may be provided. The upper surfaces of mats m, Figs. 1 and 5, of canvas, oilcloth, or similar material, are provided with circular or oval tubes n, which may be made by looping the material and may be stitched to the mats. The tubes may be filled with cotton, wool, or other soft material, a layer being also provided between the mat and the looped material. Loops r of thick felt or the like are also secured to the mat so that their free ends may be turned over the eggs. The upper mat may be covered by an apron, either upholstered or in the form of a cushion s which may be attached to the lid. A cushion may also be provided at the bottom of the box. According to the Provisional Specification, the nests for the eggs are formed by contracting each tube transversely at intervals along its length by soft twine or cord.
