18,095. Th³rey, E., and Th³rey- Schreibmaschinen Ges. Aug.9. Typewriters.-Relates to the hammer mechanism of typewriting-machines in which the types are carried by cylinders, wheels, &c. The hammer swings in an horizontal plane so as not to interfere with the usual feeding of the paper, and its operating parts are arranged so as to be inelastic, to give an accelerating motion to the hammer, and to actuate a paper holding device. Depression of the key-levers 1 rotates two spindles 5, cranks upon which are connected by links 7, 9 to the arm 11 of a spindle 12, an arm 13 of the latter being connected .to the hammer 21 by a link 14. The momentum of the hammer is but little impeded if the motion of the key-lever ceases shortly before the hammer reaches the type-carrier 10. A lever 16, which is connected by a link 15 to the arm 13, moves slowly when the hammer is operated to bring the paper within a short distance of the type-carrier 10.
