Improvements in the Manufacture of Woven Figured Fabrics.

Embossed fabrics. - Figured fabrics are woven with a plain or c a l i c o ground and a plain or calico raised figure, one we f t from a single shuttle and by preference one warp only being used. Two-thirds of the warp threads, namely the threads 1, 3, 4, 6, Fig. 1, are drawn into the jacquard harness, which is tied up in pairs so that two ends are worked by the same hook. Onethird of the warp threads, namely the threads 2, 5, are drawn into two healds, which are alternately raised throughout the weaving. In weaving the ground, the jacquard also raises the warps 6, 4 and 2, 1 alternately at each pick, Fig. 2, and the whole warp forms a plain ground, Fig. 3. When weaving the figure, the healds only are used, the weft interweaving with the warp threads 2, 5 only and forming a raised figure, and the jacquard-controlled warp threads 1, 6, 4, 3, floating under the figure.
