Incandescent gas lamps.-In the manufacture of mantles that are burnt off in situ on the burner, a stiffening-substance, such as starch, is added to the impregnating-liquid, so that the mantle is sufficiently rigid to remain uprignt when placed'on the burner.- The fork of the mantle support is made deeper than usual in order to allow for shrinkage of the: mantle during burning off. Several mantles may be mounted on a tube for transport.
