The tappet lever 8, Fig. 1, is mounted on a shaft 7 carrying a bell-crank, one arm of which is counterweighted to balance the tappet lever 8 while the other arm 6 terminates in a fork which embraces one end of a lever 4, Fig. 2, pivoted loosely on the spindle 19 of the sloping feed-table 1. A cam 3 carried by the lever 4 is forced into contact with a frictionwheel 2 beneath the table by a spring 3a. When the tappet lever 8 is struck, the lever 4 oscillates and causes the cam to advance the table, a spring- pressed shoe 14 preventing any backward movement.
