Aspirating apparatus, injector.-Consists of constructional improvements in injector apparatus, for compressing steam or other elastic fluid, of the type in which the inducing-nozzle is of convergent-divergent longitudinal section, rectangular cross-section, and of very small width at the throat. In the apparatus described, steam at high pressure draws in steam at a lower pressure, and the mixture is compressed to an intermediate pressure, but any elastic fluid may be similarly employed as the inducing- medium or the medium induced. The convergent-divergent inducing-nozzle c, d, which is of narrow rectangular cross-section, the maximum width allowable at the throat 4 being three millimetres, together with a steam-inlet reservoir r, is formed by simply placing together the machined faces of two symmetrical halves 1. Low-pressure steam from the inlet a of the casing surrounding the nozzle is entrained through ports 9 formed by spaced symmetrical bars 7, the ends of which fit in grooves of triangular plates forming the sides of the combining-tube. The bars are shaped so that (1) the ports 9 converge towards the axis of the inducing-jet; (2) the inner faces of the bars are parallel to the axis, so as to provide passages of constant area in which the velocity of the fluid remains constant; (3) the inner lower edges 8 of the bars lie in planes containing the divergent side of the inducing-nozzle. The topmost pair of bars are isolated from the inducing-nozzle at an adjustable distance bv screws 11. The inducing-steam passes through a strainer, the total cross-sectional area of the passages of which is at least equal to that of the steam-pipe. The inducing- nozzle may be provided with partitions for dividing the inducing-jet into several jets having similar properties.
