Pencil-sharpeners. - In pencil-sharpeners of the type in which an abrading - surface is mounted above a dust - collecting casing, the abrading-surfaces are attached to, or formed on, a spindle A rotatable by a handle, hand-wheel, &c. Hand journaled above the casing E. The spindle is provided with two spring clips G in which a rough and a smooth file B are detachably held. In another form, a file having a coarse and a fine face is drawn out and rounded at the ends to form the spindle, which revolves in bearings integral with the casing, and is preferably detachable. Smooth and rough emery cloth or sand-paper mounted on a wood spindle may be substituted for the file. A sliding drawer F may be arranged in the casing.
