An Improved Arrangement for the Self-discharging of Ships.

Vessels modified for unloading.-In ships of the kind having sloping surfaces b, l and apertures c2 provided with flaps or shutters in the hull in proximity to the surfaces, through which bulk cargo may be discharged, several apertures or rows of apertures c, c1, c2 are arranged vertically between the separate surfaces. With this arrangement, the cargo is discharged through the uppermost apertures c first, and, as the ship rises, the lower apertures are brought into operation. Lifting-apparatus may be provided for raising cargo from the lower holds where such are necessitated in order to impart stability to the ship.
