16,476. Whalley, J. J., and Whalley, W. H., [trading as Whalley & Son, W. H.]. July 11. Picking sticks, straps, and connexions.-A portion of the picking-band is wrapped round the stick so as to come between the stick and the part of the band subjected to greatest wear, the friction thus taking place between leather and leather. The end of the strap 4, Figs. 1 and 2, is passed through the lower side of a slot 3 in the picking-stick 1, through a hoop 5 or bent pin, and around the neck 2 of the stick, and is secured by a " cock heel " 6 or by a spring, string, or other means. The other end of the strap is passed through the hoop 5, and thence to the picker. The end of the strap may, in some cases, be passed through the upper side of the slot 3, Fig. 6, under the hoop 5 or bent pin, around the neck, and under the hoop again, being secured in any suitable manner.
