Cutting - appliances. -A knife or tool for tapping india-rubber or other latex - yielding trees consists of two parts, one part a consisting of a metal sheet cut or stamped with, or having attached thereto, a number of staggered blades a1, and secured to the other part b consisting of a cast body and a handle c. The part a is received in side grooves b1 of the body part and is secured by adjustable screws d, which also serve to regulate the depth of the cut. The metal sheet is curved transversely to suit the trees operated upon, and the blades are at rightangles to the surface thereof; the tips of the blades may be inclined as shown. In a modiiication, the body part consists of end anglepieces joined to a handle, the end pieces being securea to the metal sheet by screws or rivets. instead of, or in addition to the screws d, longitudinal stop-rods d1, having upturned screwed ends d2 adjustably fixed to the body by nuts, may be used to regulate the depth of the cut.
