Cutting - appliances.-A tool for tapping india-rubber and other latex-yielding trees consists of a sheet of steel a cut and stamped so as to form a number of blades d projecting approximately at right-angles to the surface thereof ; the tips of the blades, which are preferably arranged in staggered rows, are bent upwards and sharpened at d'. The plate a is bent transversely to suit the trees operated upon, and a handle c is fixed between end angles b. The plate a is reinforced by bending or crimping the edges a1 and wires may be enclosed within the curled edges; or the plate may be rolled so as to comprise strips of different thicknesses, the blades being formed from the thinner portions.
