Composite, helical, and semi-elliptic springs. -Relates to buffers for application to the sides of docks, quays, wharves, landing-stages, &c. for the purpose of absorbing the shock that occurs when vessels come into contact therewith, and consists in providing in a recess in the wall of the dock a part C which moves on a pivot G with respect to a part B to which it is connected by a pair of plate springs F, the part B sliding on rollers M with respect to a fixed part A against the action of a system of helical springs E. The part C is provided with tyred rollers K which bear against the vessel, and its movement about the pivot G is guided by rollers I working in guides J.
