Terpenes; hemiterpenes.-Terpenes are manufactured by heating their halogenhydrides with catalytic agents such as arenaceous quartz, kaolin, cork meal, powdered glass, ordinary charcoal, blood or animal charcoal, &c. in the presence of a diluent or of a substance which combines with halogenhydride, for example amines, phenolates, salts of organic acids, oxides, hydroxides, metals, &c. In examples the manufacture of camphene and dipentene is is described. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also the use of kieselguhr, and artificial charcoal, and also the application of the process to hemi- and polyterpenes; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specificafions 10,783/07 and 25,453/07.
