Combs, hair.-An appliance for cleaning toilet combs, table-forks, and other pronged or toothed articles comprises a series of threads, fibres, wires, &c., in combination with one or more brushes so arranged that the article to be cleaned can be passed along the wires &c. and through the brushes in one motion. Figs. 1 and 9 show two forms of the appliance. The parallel fibres a, Fig. 1, are obtained by removing the warp threads from the central and end portions of a strip of horse-hair fabric, the ends of which are turned over so as to leave projecting hairs forming brushes e. The strip may be mounted somewhat in the manner of a razor strop. The strip may be bent upon itself, and only one brush may be provided. In the form shown in Fig. 9, the strip of fabric b is bent three times upon itself and the warp threads removed so as to provide two parallel layers of fibres a and brushes at the lower part. Strips of polishing-material l, such as wool or chamois leather, are secured between the layers of hairs and serve for polishing the prongs of the forks. Polishing-powder may be applied to the leather &c.
