106,849. Waters, T. June 2, 1916. Repairing.-In an apparatus for use in severing and bevelling the worn sole of a boot at the joint &c., particularly for use on military boots loaded with metallic fasteners or other reinforcements, the boot is mounted in a main frame 3 universally supported at one end, and, by means of a handle 7 is traversed several times across a milling-cutter J. or a grinding-cutter, until the desired depth of cut has been made. The boot is supported in the frame 3 by means of a supplementary frame 8 having one end 11 curved to the normal side-to-side curve of a worn sole and slotted at 10 to receive the cutter, while its other end carries on a screw 14 a block 16 slotted to receive a bent rod 13, which engages the pin-hole of the last on which the shoe is mounted; the frame 8 is adjustably pivoted at 17 to the frame 3 and is clamped, after adjustment, by means of a nut and screw 19, 20. The depth of the cut is determined by contact with the frame 8 of an adjustable gauge 24, which is yieldingly mounted so that a deeper cut mav be made when required, such as at each side of the boot.
