Piston packing.-Relates to packing for the pistons of air-compressing and exhausting pumps and in the pneumatic conveyance of grain and other granular materials in which it is impossible to use oil or grease as a lubricant in consequence of the presence of dust in the air. Fig. 1 shows a packing-ring c of so't metal in which are a number of recesses d containing graphite which serves as a lubricant. An ordinary metal packing-ring c1 provided wich a a soft-metal facing c2 may be used as shown in Fig. 2, or as shown in Fig. 3, the ordinary packing-ring c1 may be of U-section and contain a soft-metal ring c2.
