109,262. Taylor, W. O. Aug. 29, 1916, [Convention date]. Circular machines.-Relates to mechanical stopmotions fur circular machines, of the type comprising yarn-controlled drop fingers adapted to actuate trip mechanism, and comprises mainly the combination with the deep fingers and trip mechanism of a circumferentially-movable controller-ring operable manually or automatically, and having high and low parts for restoring dropped fingers and for holding unoperated fingers against accidental action, the actuation of said ring for releasing the fingers being under the control of the operator. The fingers 10 are pivoted at 11 to a ring 9, are weighted at 13, and are connected through levers 15 to radial wires 21, which, upon falling of the fingers 10, are projected inwardly to engage trip mechanism and release a rod 32 connected to a catch lever 51 normally locking the belt-fork 73 against the fast pulley 75 through an arm 49 adjustably connected to an arm 48 mounted upon a shaft 47 connected to drive control mechanism as described in Specification 118,280. The yarns pass from overhead guides through bends or loops at the ends of the fingers 10, then substantially at right-angles to porcelain eyes 3 adjustably secured to nails 6, and thence to the main guides 2. Dropping of the fingers 10 is caused by failure or breakage of the yarn by falling of the yarn from the overhead guide due to binding, &c., or by needle protectors 34 each mounted upon a rock-shaft 35 which, when deflected, releases a spring shaft 381 carrying an arm 37a adapted to depress the corresponding finger 10. The fingers 10 have a considerable range of movement before releasing the trip mechanism, in order to take up slack, &c., the drag of the yarn being increased as the fingers fall, by wrapping about a rod 33. The overhead guide for such yarn comprises a pair of curved arms 115, Figs. 10 and 14, extending from a rod 116 pivotally supported in an arm 118 and held up by springs 124 or 1241 Undue tension of the yarn depresses the cams 115, causing the yarn to drop off. Upon stoppage of the machine, the fingers 10 are all restored to, and held in, the normal position shown in Fig. 1, by the partial rotation of a notched disk 40 formed with cam-portions adapted to engage the levers 15. The disk is operated by a block 104 on the belt-fork slide 72 engaging a stop 103 on a rod 102 connected to the disk through a bell-crank lever 100, rod 98, bell-crank lever 96, and rod 41. Upon starting the machine, the block 104 engages a second stop 106 on the rod 102 and, through the lever 100 and its connexion to the rod 41, turns the disk 40 to release the levers 15, the stop 106 being so arranged that this release is delayed until the machine has attained speed; the release may be further delayed by pressing in a hand-lever 105 extending from the bell-crank lever 96, a yielding connexion 99 being provided in the rod 98. Fig. 16 shows a modification of the dropfinger devices. The fingers 10 are provided with two loops 10a, 10b embracing the rod 33, whereby the drag on the yarn is increased and the movement of the fingers is reduced. The levers 15 are dispensed with, the fingers operating the trip mechanism controlling the rod 32 directly through rods 15a. A notched plate 40a, for restoring the fingers upon stoppage, is operated by hand through a pin 127 depending from an arm 126 extending from a collar 105x, the collar being turned by a handle 105a to restore the fingers 10 and being returned by a spring 105b. The weights 13 of the fingers are provided with adjustable portions 13a. The weighted ends of the fingers 10 bear against a cloth-covered stop-plate 114, Figs. 1 and 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the subject-matter described in Specification 118,280. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
