123,133. Horne, F. G., and Horne, L. F. Feb. 6, 1918. Cutting - out a n d measuring for.-A chart is provided for use in determining the correct amount of material required for bespoke garments. On this chart there are a number of divisions containing columns of numerals for different requirements, namely (1) lounge suits, dinner jackets, vests, and trousers, (2) morning coats and vests, (3) lounge suits and extra trousers, (4) overcoats, (5) lounge suits and vests, (6) officers' tunics, (7) trousers, and (8) breeches, while a further space is provided for containing instructions in the use of the chart. The first of these eight divisions is taken as an example. In this division, the lines of numerals a1, a2 represent lengths of material to be used for suits with 38 to 42 inch chests, a1 being for plain-bottom trousers, and a2 for permanent turnup trousers. The lines a3, a4 are similar lines for chest measurements of from 34 to 37¢ inch .chests. The vertical row of numerals a5 indicates the length of back, the other numerals horizontally opposite those figures represent trouser side-seam measurements. These measurements are the only ones necessary. Assuming a back measurement of 32 inches and a trouser side seam measurement of 42 inches, the plain lines indicate the amount of cloth required, namely, the numeral on the row a' for any waist measurement from 38 to 42 inches with plain-bottom trousers, that is 3 yards 10¢ inches; the numeral on the line a2 for the same waist measurements with permanent turn-up trousers, that is 3 yards 12 inches; while the lines a3, a4 represent corresponding amounts for waist measurements of from 34 to 37¢, inches, that is 3 yards 4¢ inches and 3 yards 6 inches respectively.
