Feeding carding-engines &c.-The weighing-apparatus of an automatic hopper feeder is driven from the feed lattice of the carding-engine or other machine being supplied with fibre through a clutch arrangement, so that the movement of the feed lattice can be reversed without any disengagement of parts connected with the automatic feeder, whilst when normal motion of the feed lattice is resumed the driving of the weighing-apparatus also is automatically resumed. The weighing-apparatus w is controlled by a cam on a sleeve w1 driven through a free wheel clutch B by a chain c irom a sprocket d which derives its motion trom the lower feed roller shaft e. The clutch comprises an outer cover b1 and an inner half b3 on the sleeve carrying a spring controlled tooth b4. If the fibre on the lattice a chokes the feed' rollers, the side shaft f can be disengaged to stop the feed rollers and the lattice a can be reversed by hand. The clutch B then runs freelv and the weighing-apparatus is not operated. When the lattice a is restarted in the normal direction the clutch B immediately takes up the drive.
