Improvements in devices for aligning cigarettes discharged from cigarette-making machines

Cigarette-making machines.- Cigarettes A, B are severed together from a cigarette-rod and delivered to a tray 23 on a carriage 1, reciprocated on rails 2a, 2b by a connecting-rod 7 and a crank 5 on a shaft 4. During the outstroke of the carriage the cigarette B is displaced laterally by a vertical arm, pivoted to the carriage-framework and actuated by linkwork connected to a roller 12 bearing against a cam 11 driven by chain-andsprocket gear from the crank-pin 6. At the end of the stroke, a lever 27 connected to a collar 28 on a shaft 29 is caused to descend by the action of a cam 34 on the shaft 4 lifting a link 31, and stops 26a, 26b on the lever prevent the cigarettes from returning with the carriage and cause them to be, delivered to an endless belt 35 travelling at right angles thereto. The cigarettes may be delivered and clamped to an intermittently moving apron or chain from which they are removed during a period of rest by moving strippers.
