Malt - turners. - In malt - turning apparatus comprising a traveller carrying radial beaters and mounted on channel irons at either side of the floor, the channels are arranged with their open sides towards each other and their webs close to the side walls, traversing racks being attached to the under surfaces of the top flanges while the bottom flanges support the running wheels or the traversing gear. The carriage D, Fig. 4, is supported by wheels b' on the upper flanges and is traversed by means of a worm E1 supported on one of the lower flanges. The worm E1 drives a, worm wheel d' which drives the tumbler shaft f and is geared to a pinion j engaging the rack k. Belt reversing gear is operated by a longitudinal rod a1 with stops a2. The carriage may be driven by a chain passing over a pinion on the tumbler shaft, and the supporting-wheels may run on the lower flanges. Fig. 5 shows a form of tumbler comprising a pair of channel members C1 through which pass the radial stems F' on which the turning scoops are mounted. Thestems comprise tubular members 0 screwed intoopposite sides of the members C1, and members p screwed into the members 0, locking nuts q being provided. By these means the lengths of the stems may be adjusted. The stems are staggered.
