C r a n k actuated p u m p s ; indicating action of; sediment traps; delivery reservoirs; pumps w i t h reciprocating and oscillating piston moving in fixed cylinder.-In a valveless pump of the kind d comprising a reciprocating and oscillating piston 5 in a cylinder 1, the oscil- 1ations are rapidly effected at the end of the reciprocations. The piston is reciprocated by a crank 12 engaging a cross-head 8, in which the end of the piston - rod is revolubly mounted. Oscillation is effected by means of a cam on the crank-web oscillating a pair of levers 15 engaging a rack 19 in gear with a pinion 20 on a collar 30. A pin 21 on the collar engages a slot 22 in the piston-rod. In another form, the oscillation is effected by two arms projecting from the crank-webs and alternately engaging two vertical projections on the collar 30. In another form, the oscillating levers 15 reciprocate a slotted member engaging a crank-pin on the collar 30. The skirt of the piston has two ports 6, 6a about 90‹ apart with alternately register with the inlet and outlet ports 1a, 1b. In the doubleacting forms shown in Fig. 1, the ports 6, 6a in the upper skirt are diametrically opposite the corresponding ports in the lower skirt. The skirts are guided between the cylinder 1 and two cylindrical members 2 carried by the end covers. In the case of a deep-well pump, the cylinder 1 has a jacket through which the delivery liquid passes to the uptake pipe surrounding the pump rod. To enable the position of the cylinder to be ascertained for adjustment purposes, the cylinder carries abutments adapted to be engaged at the ends of the piston movements by an arm and a collar on the pump rod.
