211,858. Maschinenfabrik Schweiter Akt.-Ges. Feb. 23, 1923, [Convention date]. Reeling - machines; swifts.-The swift 8 in a reeling-machine is supported on an arm 21 oscillatably mounted on a stud 2, and it comprises a hub 10 fixed on a sleeve 9 and provided with arms 11 which carry hank-supporting frames 14, the frames 14 being also jointed by links 15 to arms 16 on a collar 17 slidable on the sleeve 9. The swift is driven by means of a wheel 13 on the hub 10 from a wheel 12. A spring tends to force the collar 17 away from the hub 10 and thereby to maintain the hank supports 14 in their operative positions. The sleeve 9 is fixed in position between the arm 21 and a set-ring 21 on an internal sleeve 20, which is clamped to the arm 21 and is provided at its outer end with a sliding member 22. The movements of the member 22 are limited by a screw 23 engaging a slit 24 in the sleeve 20. The member 22 carries an axial rod 25 to which is attached one end of a tension member 26 that passes through the arm 21 over pulleys 27 - - 29 through a hole 30 in the frame 1 and carries an adjustable stop 31 and a weight 32. During winding the swift is held in the position shown in full lines by the engagement of a spring-pressed lever 6 with a nose 7 on the frame 1. When the hank is wound the drive is stopped, the lever 6 is disengaged from the nose 7, and the arm 21 is turned down into the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 2. During this movement, the weight 32 is raised until the ring 31 is arrested against the frame 1, and, on further downward movement of the arm 21, the sleeve 22 and collar 17 are displaced towards the hub 10 and the diameter of the swift thereby reduced. The hank is then removed and the arm 21 swung upwards, the members forming the swift resuming their original positions under the action of the spring 18.
