221,947. Owen, W. H. Sept. 12, 1923. Bottling; filling jars, cans, and like receptacles. -Apparatus for filling simultaneously a number of bottles, jars, boxes, tins, or like receptacles with liquid or semi-liquid comprises a moving chamber or attached group of chambers immersed in the liquid &c. so that in one position one or more apertures in the chamber register with an aperture or apertures in its casing to allow the liquid to pass into the chamber, and in another position these inlet apertures are closed, while another aperture or apertures are open to the atmosphere or air pressure to allow the liquid to pass from the chamber by an outlet aperture or apertures into the bottle &c. The supply tank is provided in the bottom with a number of orifices corresponding to the number of bottles to be filled at each operation, and contains a slidable box arranged to move to and fro over the bottom within a casing comprising two side-members connected together by springs &c. and a top member or cover. The box is divided into compartments each having an aperture a1, Fig. 2, in its side, an, aperture B1 in the top, and an aperture d1 in the bottom. The side-pieces of the casing have apertures a, Fig. 3, which register with the apertures a1 when the box is at one end of its stroke. Two orifices B, c for each compartment are provided in the top of the casing, the aperture c being fitted with a tube communicating with the atmosphere &c. When the side orifices a, a1 register, as shown in Fig. 5, the top orifices B, B1 also register, and liquid parses into the compartments. At the opposite end of the stroke, Fig. 6, the bottom orifices d' of the compartments register with orifices in the bottom of the tank, and the top orifices B1, c also register, so that the liquid can flow into the bottles beneath the tank. A circular box divided into segments and rotating to and fro on a central point may be used instead of a rectangular box. The tank is large enough to contain several boxes which are reciprocated together by any suitable means.
