Improvements in or relating to apparatus for discharging grain and other material from railway wagons

Machinery, utilizing inertia to obtain movements in.-Mechanism for moving a railway wagon &c. longitudinally to and fro in order to discharge its contents is adapted to jar the wagon at each end of the movement, to give a heavy jar at either end, and to vary the extent of the movement. The wagon is held between end clamps 31 connected with a rod 37 which is moved to and fro by the eccentric 51 and slide block 54. The block is loose on the rod 37 between collars 57, 58 thereon. In addition, abutments 59, 60 adjustable longitudinally on the rail structure co-operate with collars on the rod 37. The collar 57 has two positions of adjustment on the rod 37; in one position the slideblock is a working fit between the collars 57, 58, and in the other position there is lost motion. The eccentric 51 is adjustable through about 90‹ on an eccentric 50 keyed on the driving shaft 49. The inner eccentric drives the outer by a kev 56. The throw of the eccentric 51 is therefore short or long according to the direction of rotation. The heavy jars at one end of the stroke are given by adjusting the collar 57 to permit of lost motion, and running the eccentric at low speed with the longer throw, the abutment 59, 60 being adjusted to left or right so that either the collar 58 strikes the abutment 59, or a third collar 63 on the rod 37 strikes the abutment 60.
