Rands and welts, attaching.-A machine for nailing rands and welts of footwear, and of the general character described in Specifications 20376/98 and 14046/04, [both in Class 17, Boots &c.], is modified for use in attaching a sole extension to the breast of a Louis heel, in such a way that the work may be. held close to the face of the machine. The work table and welt-feed devices are removed. The collar 15 which secures the driver 13 to its bar 14 is set with its boss 16 and screw 17 parallel to the plane of the front face of the machine and accommodated by a recess 18 in the circular portion 6 of the lever 3 which operates the movable knife 2. A protector plate 21 is arranged to shield the exposed parts of the driver and its bar, and the screws 91, 101 which hold the knife cover-plates 7, 8 in place have countersunk heads 911, 1011, whilst the lower end of the nail throat 11 is bevelled rearwardly.
