241,338. Bingley, F., and Thorogoods, Ltd. Aug. 23, 1924. Refrigerators, domestic and like.-A food safe of the kind have perforated walls enclosing sheets of fabric moistened by water flowing by capillary action from an upper reservoir to a lower collecting tray is constructed of readily separable parts, preferably of metal, the perforated walls being removable without disassembly of the whole safe, so as to give access to the fabric sheets for removal and cleaning. The safe preferably comprises tubular metal corner uprights 1 - - 4, a top metal reservoir 5 and a bottom tray 11, and guides 23 on the uprights for the reception of the perforated walls. The bottom tray 11 is provided with fixed sleeves 31, Figs. 6 and 7, for the reception of the corner uprights, which are fastened by screws 32, additional security being obtained by brackets 33 attached to the tray and screwed to the uprights. Stretcher members 35 arranged between the sleeves 31 serve to support the floor plate 9 of the safe. The top reservoir 5 is provided with brackets 6 secured to the uprights by screws 30, and has an inturned upper flange 7 fitted with studs 8 to which the fabric sheets may be fastened. The perforated walls are preferably reinforced by wire 16 at the edges, and the door member is provided with a cross stiffener 17 and a plate 18 for a catch 19. The guides 23 for the side and back perforated walls are formed of folded sheet-metal plates attached to the tubular uprights. The top 27 is hinged on pins 44 screwed into the uprights. Shelves 14 have flanges engaging over hooks on the corner uprights. The fabric for the sides is preferably canvas or hessian, having holes or eyelets engaging over the studs 8 and tapes at the lower end tied around hooks 37, Fig. 7. Strips of flannel 22 dipping into the reservoir 5 may be mounted over the top edges of the fabric. The tray 11 may be drained through a plugged hole in the bottom, and has a small overflow opening 42 at a level above the stretcher members so as to maintain a liquid seal in the tray to prevent entrance of dust and vermin. The front fabric sheet may be hung on a rail 38 and fastened to hooks 39 on the door member.
