Electric governors. -A governor for an engine driving a dynamo of the kind including two relatively oscillatory members having magnetic axes which tend to coincide has on one or both of them windings energized according to the volts and amperes of the dynamo circuit and having their magnetic axes angularly spaced. A yoke 2 carries a pair of shunt-wound poles 3 and a pair of series-wound poles 5, each shunt and series pole having a common shoe 7. The rotatable armature 1 is biassed by a coiled spring 8 and is connected by levers to the engine throttle valve. A dash-pot may be used in addition to or instead of the spring. The armature may have symmetrical shunt and series windings. The yoke may be laminated and the poles slotted to receive distributed windings. The air gap may he tapered and the parts may be skewed in relation to the mechanical axis.
