Trimming type-bars.-In trimming-apparatus of the kind described in Specification 16517/11, in which the adjustments of the movable knife are effected against spring pressure by means of a rotary sector-plate having a series of screw studs, which project to different extents, locking-means is provided for preventing adjustment before the spring pressure has been released, in order to avoid wear of the parts. The adjustable knife A is carried by a slide B having a stud B5, which is held by the pressure of springs B4 in contact with one of a series of studs D1 on a rotatable sector-plate D. A pin B6 on the slide rests in the path of a hand-lever E, which is pivoted to a rigid arm E1, and enables the slide to be retracted against the spring pressure. A spring plate F1 carries a finger F, which is adapted to engage locking-notches in the plate D. The plate F1 can be retracted by means of a handle F2, which is located close to the arm E1, so that the handle F2 and the hand-lever E are grasped at the same time. A pointer F3 co-operates with graduations on the sector-plate D. In a modification, which is adapted to be operated by one hand, the retraction of the slide B is effected by means of a turning-knob, which is subsequently moved along its shaft in order to withdraw the locking-plate F1. By this, movement the knob is connected through clutch surfaces with the sector-plate, which can then be rotated.
