Improvements relating to driving installations for coal and like cutting machines

Coal-cutting machines. - A coal-cutting machine is driven by an electric motor with two armatures or rotors 1 each connected to a driving shaft 2 by gearing 3, 4 whereby the height and length of the machine are reduced. The shaft 2 drives the cutter chain sprocket through gearing 7, 8, 10, 11, the gear 8 being slidable to form a clutch; the shaft 2 also drives through gearing 13, 14 a shaft 15 extending through a tunnel between the stators and driving the haulage gear. In a modification, the gearing 3, 4 is arranged at the end of the machine, the drive to the cutter chain then being given by a countershaft passing through the tunnel.
